Almost that time again?

Every year around this time I choose my list of top reads of the year. Though I've read less than normal this year, I managed to read a good deal of enjoyable books.

Since my numbers are down – and because it's end of semester paper writing time – I think I'll list just my Top 3 instead of a Top 10.

The question, do I do so now, or wait 'til mid-Decemberish, in case I read something else that's stellar. Well, I'm doubtful I will read much of anything from here through the end of the year. It's not pessimism speaking, for once, but rather the realities of life. I have the papers, my journal making, the holidays to prepare for and the million other tasks that crop up in the course of everyday life. So I may as well just call it a year and cut it off now.

Therefore, here are my official Top 3 Reads of 2009:

# 3: Penelope Lively – The Photograph

# 2: Evie Wyld – After the Fire, a Still Small Voice

# 1: Sam Savage – The Cry of the Sloth

It wasn't really that difficult choosing one and two, though I had two other contenders for the number three spot. But the best book I read was far and away superior to everything else.

I don't think I remembered to note every book I read. I'm pretty sure a few of them fell between the cracks of my amazingly busy life. And so it goes. It's not the only thing I let slip this year. Not by far. Apologies to my dentist, my eye doctor, and nearly everyone else in my life for having left you empty-handed (appointmented?) at one point or other throughout the year.

Not yet time for my Auld Lang Syne post, so I better stop here. God knows I have apologies, thanks and other necessaries to make before December 30, but I'll leave that open a while yet. I'll also have an end of year wrap-up so utterly strange riveting you'd do well to check in every day so you don't miss it.

IT WILL NEVER BE REPEATED AGAIN! THIS IS A ONE-TIME ONLY OFFER!

I promise.

  1. I keep meaning to check back over my book blog to make sure I do an end of year ‘best of the year’ posting but am too busy reading… It think it’s called Catch 22!
