Creepy Crawlies
Box elder bugs are stunningly colorful at these two stages. As they mature they turn black, with red stomachs and red stripes on their backs.
We must have a million little, red box elders running around our garden. They can be a nuisance, but they're harmless. I just don't like when they're so numerous they seem to cover the front of the house. That's just plain icky. And when they come inside I have to bring out the vaccum. If I don't, the dogs will eat the things. They're not what you'd call discriminating when it comes to food. And that's where I'll stop that line of thinking.
You're very welcome.
Don’t the dogs know that red is a warning colour that says ‘Don’t eat me!’ Silly things obviously haven’t read their natural history books.

Indeed! But they see everything on the floor as fair game. I bought one of my sons a nice, new pair of shoes and our younger dog took that as a personal challenge. Within a month they looked as though he’d been wearing them a decade, even to the point the sole was coming off one of them! Ah, if they weren’t so cute …

These are great pictures, but I am so glad that I don’t have those in my backyard. We have a son that is about to be a year old, so my dogs are eating the best they have in their entire lives.
