"Down, down, down into the darkness of the grave Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind; Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave. I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned."
Thanks for some Millay. Lots of critics tend to slight her nowadays; they shouldn’t. She was great beyond great. My summer sojourn I hope is going to be a trip to Steepletop, her final home.
George, I just love Millay. I’ve been to Camden, ME, where she lived for a while. I have some photos of her statue in a park there, but I’ve never been to any of her homes. It seems she moved around a fair amount of times.
Camden is beautiful. I could see myself living there.
J.G. – I pondered whether I should add the poem, or let the photo speak for itself. There are some very affecting images coming out of Dover A.F.B. lately.
Beautiful poem (one of my favorites) and so appropriate for today. Thank you.
